Donald Edward Ross, 84, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home on Friday, October 22, 2021. Don was born on June 25, 1937 in Guymon, Oklahoma, to the late Royse "Rosie" and Alta Carthelle Ross and spent his formative years in Clifton, Arizona. Don served his country in the United States Air Force both stateside and in Vietnam. He learned the trade of filmmaking at Bob Jones University, where he received his undergraduate and master's degrees in Cinema, and in the Air Force as a captain with the 600th Photographic Squadron. He used that knowledge and experience to produce evangelistic films in 50 countries and 39 languages with the purpose of leading people to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Through his many years of faithful Gospel-centered service, Don ministered with Ken Anderson Films and International Films in Winona Lake, Indiana; Harvest Productions (EBM) in Kokomo, Indiana; and, in his "retirement," Don Ross Ministries with Open Door Baptist Missions in Greenville, South Carolina.
Don received Christ as his Savior while in college at Arizona State University, and after this life-changing decision, he transferred to Bob Jones University to pursue his calling to preach the word of God through the medium of film.
Don is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Betty Ruth Ross; brother, Larry Ross, and sister, Shirley Sass; five children Rebecca Henning, Steve (Jan) Ross, Deb (Vic) Crater, Tim (Kim) Ross, and Michael (Melissa) Ross; fifteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many "adopted" young people whom he mentored and considered his own through the years.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Rosie and Alta Carthelle Ross, brother Bob Ross, and son-in-law Jonathan Henning.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Hampton Park Baptist Church, 875 State Park Rd, Greenville, SC 29609. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00pm.
