IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jackye Sue
Weaver
August 24, 1933 – March 26, 2025
Jackye Sue (Adams) Weaver was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on August 24,1933 to her beloved parents, Bill and Opal Adams. She spent her formative years in Great Depression-era Arkansas and Kansas, along with her brothers Bob and Jerry. There, she learned to pinch a penny, a talent for which she would be famous with her family.
Jackye was always a hard worker in everything she did. She once shared how her first full-time job after graduating Goddard High School in 1951 enabled her to buy a new pair of shoes every pay day, the beginning of a life-long love of accessories (especially shoes, purses, and jewelry!).
On January 24, 1954, Jackye and her parents attended a tent revival meeting where evangelist Jack Shuler was preaching. That evening, she gave her life to Christ, the momentous hinge-point and deep conviction on which the rest of her 91 years would turn.
Shortly thereafter, she met a handsome, guitar-playing young Airman named Edward Leroy Weaver. Jackye and Ed drove her first car—a '51 Henry Jay that she named Tootsie—while dating. They quickly fell in love and were wed on July 2, 1955. By God's grace, they were married nearly 70 years, raising four children and serving together in church ministry from coast to coast.
She was a much-loved friend, school and Sunday School teacher, and mentor to many throughout the years. She also capably served as church secretary, church historian, and long-time director of the Senior Saints ministry at Freedom Baptist Church. Jackye was a faithful witness for Christ in both her actions and words, and her greatest desire was to know Him and make Him known.
Even as she grew older, Jackye always remained young at heart, loving to laugh, enjoying witty banter, and instigating a good practical joke. She was an avid reader (especially of historical fiction), enjoyed following politics, and didn't hesitate to speak her mind.
She and Ed often traveled to visit their grandchildren across the country—usually with her handy Camcorder in tow—to document various family reunions. Each of her grandchildren were lovingly known to her by their first name with "-boo" attached to the end.
Jackye passed into the loving arms of Jesus after an extended illness, surrounded by her husband and children, at 11:00 a.m. on March 26, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, and daughter-in-law Diane Weaver. Jackye is survived by her loving husband, Ed; and her four devoted children: Mark (Marcia) Weaver, Renae (Harold) Gibbs, John Weaver, and Rachel (Gaston) Creamer. The Lord also blessedher with 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
A Service of Thanksgiving for Jackye's life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Freedom Baptist Church, 1907 W. Parker Rd., Greenville, SC 29617. The family will receive friends and loved ones an hour prior, beginning 1:00 PM. Committal and burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery West in Greenville, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Freedom Baptist Church.
