Johnny Belton McMakin Jr. passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, at the age of 93. He was being cared for by his granddaughter Kimberly Miller and her family in her home in Belton, SC.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two spouses, Betty McMakin and Zenobia Hanks McMakin; one bonus son, Randy Bennett; one grandson, Jamie McMakin; and one great grandson, Jonathon Bennett. Johnny is survived by his son, Michael "Mike" McMakin; one bonus son, Roger Bennett (Cheryl); one bonus daughter-in-law, Linda Bennett; his sister, Dot Sides; grandchildren: Heather McMakin, Raymond Bennett (Melinda), Craig Bennett (Bridget), Tina Fulbright (Danny), Kimberly Miller (Joe), and Crystal Bennett: great-grandchildren: Hudson Bennett, Emily Matson, Hayley Bennett, Haleigh Taylor, Tyler Miller, Aaron Miller, and Ethan Miller; and great great-granddaughters, Grace Miller and Laurel Matson.
A proud veteran, Johnny served four years in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. A man of deep faith, Johnny served in various roles within his church, living as an example of Christian values to all who knew him. His life was a testament to his belief in serving others, and his memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.
A private burial was be held at Graceland Cemetery West in Greenville, SC.
