Linda Schaeffer
Stephens
Linda S. Stephens, of Greenville, SC, died peacefully on May 28, 2026, at the age of 84. She was the daughter of the late Beatrice and Robert F. Schaeffer, Jr.
Linda was raised in Hatboro, Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Upper Moreland High School in 1959. She completed the Medical Secretaryship Program at Peirce School of Business Administration in Philadelphia in 1961 and then worked as secretary to the president of the Montgomery Publishing Company in suburban Philadelphia until 1966. She married in 1963, had two daughters, and spent many happy years with her family in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, New Jersey, and finally Connecticut, where she once again exercised her impressive organizational skills as executive assistant to the EVP and CFO of the ROLM Company. She and her husband later moved to Virginia, where she worked as an executive assistant at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and was involved in many community activities.
Linda was a devoted wife and mother whose greatest joy was her family. Their photographs covered tables, bookshelves, and windowsills in every room, and she delighted in every sleepover, ice cream outing, science fair, and sporting event she shared with her grandchildren. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed tennis, sewing, and travel.
Linda was a remarkable woman who will be remembered for her love of family and friends and for her active participation in the Presbyterian Church. The epitome of grace and elegance, she leaves a legacy of kindness, compassion, and respect for others.
Linda was predeceased by her beloved husband of 42 years, Michael Stephens. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and John Fallon and Heather and Andrew Gunter; her grandchildren, John Michael, Christopher, William, and Caroline; and her brother, Robert Schaeffer, and his wife, Sandy.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
