Mary Elizabeth Newton, 87, of Greenville passed away on Monday January 2, 2012. She is the daughter of the late Clarence T. and Clara May Burns Mahaffey and the wife of the late Elbert George Newton. Mrs. Newton was a homemaker and a member of Westville Church of God of Prophecy. She is survived by three daughters: Judy (Dennis) Whitney of Washington State and Barbara (Donnie) George and Debra Davis of Greenville; a brother: Bill Mahaffey of Greenville; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her siblings Clara Jenkins, Beulah Woods, Jessie King, Clarence Mahaffey Jr., and Wilton Mahaffey. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday January 4, 2012 at 1 pm in the chapel of Graceland Mortuary. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 12 pm until 12:45 pm. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery West. The family will be at the residence.
