Richard Edward Elrod (Rick), 75 passed away peacefully at home in Greenville, SC surrounded by his family on November 27, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Rick was born August 2, 1946 in Greenville, SC to James(Ed) and Elizabeth (Lib) Elrod. He graduated from Parker High School. Following High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served aboard the USS Yorktown during the Vietnam War. During his time in the Navy, while at a hometown softball game, Rick met the love of his life Mary Sue Reid. On December 20, 1969 they were married. Rick and Mary Sue were married for 51 years, raising two children. After leaving the Navy, Rick worked for 44 years as a salesman and branch manager at Applied Industrial Technologies until he retired.
Rick was a devoted husband and father who was always placing his family first. He was always a source of love and support to those he loved so dearly. He was a lifetime fan of the Washington Redskins (Washington Football Club) and the Atlanta Braves.
Rick is survived by his wife Mary Sue, his daughter Samantha Collins and her husband Chad, and grandchildren Christopher, Zachary, and Emma; and by his son Richard Edward Elrod II and grandson Brandon. Rick is also survived by his brother, Don G. Elrod and his wife Gail. He will be greatly missed by his cousins, nieces, and nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lib Elrod.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery.
