Obituary

Roger Lafayette Beamon, Jr. died at home Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the age of 81. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1957, Roger married country girl Helen Hedrick and they lived in Bucks County, Pennsylvania for 26 years. They had three children; daughter Linda Clyne of Greenville, SC, and sons Steven and Eric, deceased.

Roger went to college and chose a career in sales with Motorola, selling commercial two-way radios. However, more than work, Roger was a "doer." He was a ham radio operator, life member of AARL, and an avid sportsman with life membership in the NRA. He spent many hours mentoring a young man in Big Brothers. He was a pilot and flew his own plane.

During their younger years Roger and Helen opened their home during the summer to underprivileged children from New York City. Later they invited teachers from Europe for two-week visits.

At age 54 Roger and Helen moved to Tucson, Arizona where Roger spent his mornings as a docent at the Sonoran Desert Museum and afternoons playing golf to a two handicap.

In 2016 they moved to Rolling Green Village in Greenville, South Carolina to be near Linda, but Roger's quest for knowledge did not end. He spent many private hours learning about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

At his request there will be no services. Memorial contributions my be made to The First Tee (https://thefirsttee.org/) or to Shriner's Hospital for Children (https://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org).
