Virginia Lorraine P. Moore, 69, of Greenville was received into her Heavenly Father's arms on Sunday, December 27, 2015 in her home surrounded by her husband and loving children. Lorraine was born in Greenville on August 29, 1946 to Luther and the late Ruth Mauldin Purvines. Lorraine worked for many years in textiles at Poe Manufacturing as well as Emb-Tex. She then became a housewife, taking care of her kids and grandchildren. Lorraine loved spending her time outside, cutting grass, and meticulously taking care of her yard. She is of the Baptist faith and a member of Calvary First Baptist Church but also loved to visit Forestville Baptist Church and Hunt's Memorial Baptist Church with her family.
Lorraine went on a blind date with Anthony Wayne Moore on September 7, 1962. Their love blossomed and they decided that they could not go through their lives without their soulmate, so they wed exactly 1 year later and with God's help, their LOVE and DEVOTION kept them together to achieve 52 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son; Tony Moore (Megan), and three daughters: Nadine Bishop (Richard), Stacie Phillips (David), and Lara Ball. With these children, Lorraine and Wayne's lives were enriched with 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Her family was her life. She was known as "Granny" by the youngest great-grandchild to the oldest son and close family friends. There was nothing that made her happier than to see and to be with her vast family. She took such joy in attending her grandchildren's sporting events, church programs, school awards programs, recitals and pageants. If your were to ask her family members or friends, they would say that they are the ones who were blessed to know her and her legacy of unconditional love, forgiveness and faith.
Mrs. Moore is survived by her father, Luther Purvines, as well as her sister, Dolly Purvines Grice, and her most beloved cousin, Billie Ann Olds of West Palm Beach, Florida. She had so much love for her brother and sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Purvines, and brother, Tommy Purvines.
There will be a celebration of Granny's life with a visitation on Wednesday, December 30th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. The celebration continues on Thursday, December 31st, with a service at 2:00 p.m. followed by the burial at Graceland Cemetery-WEST, officiated by long-time friend and pastor, Rev. E. Linville Miller. The visitation and service will take place at Graceland Mortuary Chapel, 4814 White Horse Road, Greenville, South Carolina, 29610.
Thanks to Dr. Joe Stephenson, M.D., of GHS Cancer Institute & Homestead Hospice. Also, to Robin from Homestead Hospice for being there, "beginning to end."
