Wallace Ray
Cox
May 6, 1947 — Jun 1, 2026
Wallace Ray Cox passed away in his home on June 1, 2026. Born on May 6, 1947, in Greenville, South Carolina, Wally spent his youth in the San Souci community. A graduate of Berea High School and the University of South Carolina, he devoted decades of his professional career as a credit manager, where his expertise and commitment were well respected.
His time in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era was spent stateside, where he served as a communications specialist aboard the USS Isle Royale in Long Beach, California. His role in radio communications was a testament to his technical aptitude and sense of duty.
An avid sports fan, Wally could often be found on the sidelines at his alma mater, Berea High School, cheering on the team…his spirit undeterred by weather or circumstance. His favorite color was "Bulldog Green", which reflected his deep connection to the community he cherished.
After his career moved him to Charlotte, NC for nearly 30 years, Wallace spent the last decade of his life slowing down…living at the lake, boating and enjoying grandchildren. He loved to fish, tend to his roses and was a sucker for a good deal. He was never one to pass by a clearance aisle without taking a look. He enjoyed classic cars, particularly the Corvette, owning and restoring several during his life. He also had a special cat, Kiss, who was his “best boy” and a close companion until his very last day.
Wally is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah Cox, who was his steadfast partner and companion for many years. His family includes Ashley Adams (daughter) and husband Jason Adams, along with their children Grady and Maggie; Christopher Brashier (stepson) and Kelli Brashier, (Sydney and Reese) as well as Heather Johnson (stepdaughter) and husband JR Johnson, (Zachary Bailey) and lifelong friend Sandra Cox. His grandchildren were a source of immense pride and happiness throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Ray Cox and Edna Kelley Cox, whose memory and legacy lived on in Wally's heart forever.
There will be graveside service at 11am on Monday, June 8th at Graceland Cemetery West 4814 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29611.
