Wallace Ray Cox, affectionately known as Wally, passed away at his residence on June 1, 2026. Born on May 6, 1947, in Greenville, Wally led a life marked by dedication, creativity, and an enduring love for both family and community.
Wally devoted over three decades of his professional career as a credit manager at a factoring company, where his expertise and commitment were well respected. A lifelong learner, he earned his bachelor's degree in general studies, embodying a spirit of perseverance and accomplishment.
His time in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era was spent stateside, where he served as a communications specialist aboard the USS Isle Royale in Long Beach, California. His role in radio communications was a testament to his technical aptitude and sense of duty.
Wally was a competitive soul with a passion for sports, football being his foremost enthusiasm. A devoted fan of the Game Cox and Berea High School teams, he could be found every weekend cheering heartily on the sidelines, his spirit undeterred by weather or circumstance. His favorite color was hunter green, often called "Berea green", which reflected his deep connection to the community he cherished.
A talented artist, Wally expressed his creativity through various artistic endeavors, an aspect of his personality that brought joy not only to himself but also to those around him. He loved a good deal, always ready to engage with a friendly negotiation, a trait that exemplified his lively and engaging character.
Beyond his personal interests, Wally found solace and happiness in nature. He loved spending time at the lake and beach, where the sight and sounds of seagulls brought him peaceful moments. His affection for animals was profound, especially for Kiss and Max, companions who meant the world to him. Collecting trinkets was another pastime through which he relished memories and the simple joys of life.
Wally is survived by his beloved wife, Debrah Cox, who was his steadfast partner and companion. His family includes Ashley Adams (daughter) and husband Jason Adam, along with their children Grady and Maggie; Christopher Brashier and Kelli Brashier, they're children Sydney and Reese- as well as Heather Johnson (daughter) and husband JR Johnson, with their children Zachary Bailey. His grandchildren were a source of immense pride and happiness throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Ray Cox and Edna Cox, whose memory and legacy lived on in Wally's heart and actions.
Wallace Ray Cox will be remembered as a man of conviction, warmth, and unyielding spirit—a devoted family man, a loyal friend. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him, reflecting a life well-lived with honor, passion, and love.
